Tjernlund XCHANGER Intake/Exhaust Fans Provide Ventilation, Fresh Air
WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN – Tjernlund Products offers a pair of unique, energy-saving fans that are capable of automatically and simultaneously ridding basements or other areas of stale, musty or smelly air and drawing in fresh outside air.
The XCHANGER fans come in two styles. Model X2D is designed for mounting directly next to an outside wall and Model X2R can be connected to the outside intake/exhaust hood with 6” ducts so it can be installed in a different room than where the outside wall hood is located. Both models feature two reversible 90 CFM fans that can be positioned to move air in either direction.
The user has three options: (1) exhaust air from the interior; (2) draw outside air into the home; or (3) reverse one fan for a balanced air exchange.
While the initial cost of the XCHANGER is comparable to a dehumidifier, the dual fans in the XCHANGER use 35 watts of electricity compared to over 1000 watts for the typical portable dehumidifier. In basement applications, the XCHANGER is normally installed through an opening in the rim joist between floor joists.
The XCHANGER model X2D fan’s electrical cords are plugged into the included dehumidistat control that is plugged into a standard electrical outlet. The control senses the amount of humidity and automatically turns the unit on or off. Optional control methods include a wireless switch or a plug-in timer.
The XCHANGER Model X2R does not include a dehumidistat control, so it can be paired with the type of control that best fits the homeowner’s needs.
Both XCHANGER fans CFM performance complies with requirements of ASHRAE 62.2-2007 for homes up to 7,500 square feet and 7 bedrooms.
In addition to basements, other applications for the XCHANGER include supplying makeup air for stoves and fireplaces, ventilating storage areas, workshops and garages, plus maintaining fresh interior air in cabins during vacant periods.
