Variable Speed Scroll Compressors

Danfoss introduces its Apexx VSH series compressors: the first R410a variable speed scroll compressors for commercial air conditioning and heat pumps, according to the company. Capacity of the new VSH compressor series varies continuously to match the system load, with an operation range from 30 Hz to 90 Hz. Compared with conventional systems, energy savings with a Danfoss VSH compressor can exceed 20%.

Mid-Tier AC, MicroChannel Technology

Johnson Controls introduces a mid-tier offering of air conditioners in the 1.5- to 5-ton range that combines the high performance and reliability of York Latitude air conditioners with MicroChannel technology. Positioned between standard Latitude products and the premium York Affinity line, this new offering provides the smallest footprint in the industry. The units feature a MicroChannel coil with enhanced heat transfer characteristics, enabling them to achieve the desired performance levels with less coil surface area than competitive condensers and 50% less refrigerant. The units are available with environmentally friendly R410a refrigerant.

Biodegradable Equipment Flush

Mainstream Engineering introduces Qwik System Flush — a biodegradable refrigeration and air conditioning equipment flush that’s also non-toxic, non-flammable and effective for removing system-damaging residual oil, moisture, and acid.

Unlike some other flushes, patent-pending Qwik-SF (originally developed for the U.S. Air Force to clean fighter jet oxygen breathing systems without using toxic chemicals) leaves no residue if a system is properly evacuated down to 25-inches of mercury.

Air Conditioner Reacts To Demand

iQ Drive technology from NORDYNE delivers high-efficiency, 23-SEER cooling in a split-system air conditioner. Conventional air conditioners cycle on and off at full capacity to maintain the indoor temperature, but iQ Drive reacts to the cooling demand and changes the system capacity by modulating the speed of the compressor and motors.

Green Zone Lowers Operating Costs

Jackson System’s Green Zone, a residential and light commercial zone control system that consists of a microprocessor based logic panel that can control two zones, is available in single-stage, multi-stage and heat-pump configurations and is designed to eliminate the 8 to 12 degree temperature difference that exists between upstairs and downstairs in most two-story homes, or between one end and the other in ranch-style homes. The system also will improve overall space comfort and lower operating costs.
