January’s AHR Expo showcased thousands of new products from 1,800-plus vendors in the hvacr industry. Here is just a sampling of what the nearly 60,000 show attendees witnessed in New York.

Control Zones Via Zonocity

Arzel Zoning Technology Inc. introduces the Zonocity Series, the first manufactured system designed specifically for high-velocity-zoning applications.

High-velocity-zoning systems offer contractors a tremendous opportunity to provide controlled comfort to a larger and ever demanding residential and commercial hvac market. Arzel’s Zonocity product reduces the costs and mechanical space requirements associated with installing multiple systems and allows for the creation of up to three individually controlled zones with one air handler.

Comfort Control Center

ICM Controls features its awardwinning CC750 Comfort Control Center. The CC750 is the first variable frequency/variable voltage blower motor speed control that enables the installer to fine-tune key parameters for advanced control of air quality and moisture levels at each individual installation.

The CC750 enhances comfort and IAQ in both residential and small commercial settings by controlling the blower speed in the existing air conditioner or heat pump systems. As a result, the unit effectively reduces humidity levels by removing excess moisture in the air, creating drier, more comfortable air and provides an extra layer of defense from mold propagation.

Wireless Condensing Boilers

Cleaver-Brooks’ SysteMAX ISD Intelligent Sequencing Device, for use with the company’s line of Clearfire CFC full-condensing hot water boilers, will sequence and control up to 16 boilers, pumps, variable speed drives, dampers, temperature sensors and flow meters all at once.

The device also monitors outside air temperature and stages the boilers appropriately, controlling firing and pumping rates for optimum condensing efficiency.

Wall-Mount Units Offer Long Pipe Length

Fujitsu General America Inc. offers two ductless split-system wall mount models with longer refrigerant pipe lengths and lower ambient operation, which is especially useful for ambient cooling of computer rooms during the winter months. The units are equipped with IAQ plasma filtration.

Fujitsu’s 24RLXQ unit has an extended line set capability, providing a combined line set maximum of 165 lineal feet. It operates at outdoor temperatures as low as 0°F for both cooling and heating purposes.

Let Customers Pay With Credit

JM Software Inc. offers its Mi Business System, a mobile point-ofservice system. This system schedules appointments and services, tracks inventory, and processes credit card transactions using a mobile credit card reader and printer. The entire system runs on Windows Mobile devices such as cell phones and PDA devices. The company offers one-stop shopping that includes full functioning merchant accounts, bundled hardware and software solutions, along with software only and custom software solutions for those businesses that require particular setups for their mobile point of service needs.

Drill & Drive System

Lyropa Tool Corp. offers its patent-pending concept for drills. The Twist-Lok Drill & Drive System switches from drill bit to fastening bit. Additionally, the Drill & Drive System enables workers to utilize common, inexpensive round drill bits versus expensive hex shank drill bits that have a tendency to snap and break.

According to the company, workers can drill a pilot hole then slide the Twist-Lok driver over the drill bit automatically attaching it to the quick connect chuck. To go back to drilling mode, simply twist and pull. The Twist-Lok will automatically detach. The Twist-Lok Drill & Drive System works with any drill that has a 3/8-inch or ½-inch chuck capacity including brand name drills like Makita, DEWALT, Porter-Cable, Milwaukee, Craftsman, Ridgid, and Bosch.

Outdoor Units Offer Tons Of Capacity

Mitsubishi Electric HVAC Advanced Products Division highlights the CityMulti S-Series PUMY outdoor units. The three-ton model features a cooling capacity of 36,000 Btu/hr and a heating capacity of 40,000 Btu/hr, and the 4-ton model features a cooling capacity of 48,000 Btu/hr and a heating capacity of 54,000 Btu/hr, which makes them the perfect solution for residences and small commercial spaces.

The CityMulti S-Series PUMY outdoor units use R410a refrigerant and Mitsubishi Electric’s leading inverterdriven compressor to use energy effectively, shaving countless dollars off utility bills for end users.

Strategos, Up On The Roof

Lennox unveiled its Strategos rooftop units, which are designed to cut energy usage, cost less to operate than other systems and help reduce businesses’ environmental impact.

The units boast efficiency ratings up to 14.3 EER, 16.1 SEER and 16.4 IPLV, and help customers meet green building design objectives and can even help buildings qualify for LEED credits.

Strategos’ MSAV (multi-stage air volume) supply fan option allows Strategos units to conserve energy during partial cooling operation while still meeting comfort requirements. All Strategos units are preset at the factory for quick and easy start-up; airflow settings can also be modified in the field via the Integrated Modular Controller to match an application’s specific needs.
