Partners Offer Turnkey Residential Standby Generator
Rheem Manufacturing and Briggs & Stratton have partnered to offer Rheem- and Ruud-branded standby generators through the Rheem- and Ruud distribution network and Prostock stores. This new turnkey residential standby generator program combines Briggs & Stratton’s product development, manufacturing, and generator expertise with Rheem’s extensive hvac sales, installation, service, and parts-distribution network. Equipped with a whole-house power-management system, the home back-up power generator system incorporates advanced computer controls that efficiently and quietly manages the same essential, high-wattage appliances as a larger liquid-cooled standby generator nearly twice its size, while using less fuel. And it does so at a significantly reduced cost.
The companies note that hvacr contractors are a rapidly growing channel for residential standby generator sales.

Controllers Feature Flexible Programming
Honeywell announces a new unitary controller platform that adapts to complex hvac applications. The Honeywell Spyder Controllers offer the flexible programming previously available only on plant controllers, enabling contractors to use a smaller, cost-competitive controller while saving installation, programming, and service time.
Built for ease-of-use, the Spyder features removable terminal strips and color-coded input/output labels to greatly simplify installation and troubleshooting; an internal DC power supply, an internal real-time clock, and an optional integrated actuator eliminate the need to add external devices.

Industry’s First Fabric-Faced Diffuser
DuctSox introduces the new D-Fuser, the hvac industry’s first fabric-faced diffuser for research laboratories, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and other critical environments. It is available in three models: Lami-Flow, for vertical dispersion through fabric porosity; Radial Flow, for radial dispersion, fabric porosity, and venting; and Select Flow, for fabric porosity and custom venting. The diffuser is comprised of an environmentally-friendly, 50%-recycled polyester fabric face with an antimicrobial treatment; an anodized aluminum face frame; and a 2x4-ft., 22-guage steel, powder-coated backpan that fits all standard suspended ceiling T-bar grids. A trim kit is available for finished-ceiling retrofits. The fabric’s three-piece sewn construction allows for 4-way, 3-way, 2-way, or 1-way throws, allowing the D-Fuser to be used in new construction, retrofits, and labs with constantly changing configurations and temperature requirements. Its fabric face can be disengaged via six quarter-turn fasteners for sanitizing or quick airflow direction change-outs. A retrofit kit will soon become available to allow use of the diffuser on existing backpans.

Bulkhead and Shelving Customizes Van
Knaack Manufacturing announces new bulkhead and shelving systems that deliver increased floor space, added durability, and enhanced safety. The systems are a part of its Weather Guard Van Solutions brand. The bulkheads fit Ford and Chevy vans, feature 16-guage steel construction, and 3/16-in. steel-top mounting angles. A 9-in.-by-12-in. dog hatch in the bottom of the bulkhead allows for transporting long-length material. For Sprinter vans, a 3-in. offset provides extended room for the driver.
The shelving features 57-1/2-in. high-end panels on the 14-in.-wide jumbo knock-down van shelving to provide a better fit for Sprinter vans and keep from blocking factory- installed lighting. The 43-3/4-in. and 57-1/4-in. shelving units feature tapered end panels to allow for closer installation to the sidewall and additional cargo space in the middle of the van. The 14-in. shelving now has enhanced steel construction and also features a tapered end panel. All products come with a white powder coat for extra visibility.

New Pressure Transducer
Sensata Technologies announces a new sensor offering that overcomes the dense electromagnetic interference (EMI) barriers that generate high levels of electrical noise. The 2CH case isolated pressure transducer features EMI protection of 100v/m and a dielectric terminal-to-case strength of 1.8kVac. With pressure ranges between 100 to 750 psi and a burst pressure rating of up to 4X operating pressure, the device is suited for “electrically challenging” environments such as inverter-driven compressors and advanced hvacr systems. This new ceramic capacitive, hermetic sensor is available in a variety of pressure ports and electrical fittings.
Also, the company announces a new, low-cost plastic port fitting sensor design for lower-pressure applications where cost, weight, and corrosion resistance are important.

UVC Germicidal Lamps Last Two Years
American Ultraviolet Co. (AUC) announces that their low-pressure standard and high-output quartz UVC Germicidal Lamps have been tested and validated to perform for 17,000 hours (two years, when operated on high-frequency electronic ballasts from AUC; including the company’s Sapphire, CC, CC-R, DC, TB, and Mobile Room Disinfection Series units). The lamps provide safe, direct exposure to 254 nm UVC radiation, which, when given appropriate exposure time, makes microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, mold spores, yeast and protozoa) unable to reproduce. The resulting benefits include increased hvac operating efficiency, longer blower life, and improved air quality.

“One-Size-Fits-All” Transducer Introduced
Setra Systems Inc. introduces the Model 260 “one-size-fits-all” low-differential pressure transducer. The unit offers user selectable pressure ranges and analog outputs, a standard LCD, and AC/DC excitation on voltage output operation. At a standard accuracy of 1% FS, it provides fixed range performance for all selectable ranges. The product gives the installer the ability to “configure on the fly.” It offers various pressure ranges from 0.1 in W.C. full-scale up through 10-in. V.C. full scale (comparable Pascal ranges available as well). All units may be field- configured as unidirectional or bi-directional ranges.
The Model 260 Series’ capacitance-sensor provides better than 0.5% FS long-term stability. With its microprocessor-based electronics Setra guarantees the user uniform range-to-range accuracy. Re-configuring is completed via separate slide switches for the range selection as well as analog output and unidirectional or bi-directional ranging of the span. Additional benefits include an external push button for field zeroing and immediate feedback of range and output status after re configuring.
