The A. O. Smith Water Products Co. plant in Johnson City, Tenn., has worked more than 2 million hours without a lost-time accident. Employees achieved the 2-million-hour mark in mid-October and, since then, have worked about 2.4 million hours without a lost-time incident. The 500,000-sq. ft. facility manufactures residential water heaters and employs approximately 1,200 people. It is one of two A. O. Smith plants to surpass the 2-million-hour milestone since 2001. Johnson City celebrated its first 2 million hours without a lost-time accident in November 1996 and, at one point, its employees had worked 5.8 million hours without a lost-time accident. In 2006, four other A. O. Smith facilities worked 1 million hours without a lost-time accident.
