ASHRAE’s recent 2007 Winter Meeting earned event certification under Leonardo Academy’s Cleaner and Greener/Health and Climate Care Program. The program helps organizations quantify their emissions footprint and develop strategies to reduce and offset their emissions; and certifies their level of achievement. The donations offset more than 120% of the carbon dioxide emissions generated by the meeting, held late January in Dallas.
Collectively, ASHRAE members and DuPont Refrigerants offset 6.6 million pounds of CO2 emissions. DuPont donated 3,000 metric tons of carbon-dioxide-equivalent emission reduction, and attendees made charitable donations, through ASHRAE’s Greening of ASHRAE Meetings and Expositions (GAME) committee, to purchase offsets.
