DuPont Introduces Hybrid Membrane Technology
Hybrid Membrane Technology (HMT) is a new offering for air and liquid filtration that aims to fill the performance gap between traditional nonwovens and microporous films. Composed of continuous sub-micron fibers and available on a commercial scale in the form of “membrane-like” sheet structures, DuPont HMT delivers an optimal balance of flux/barrier performance, according to the company. HMT will be the leading technology provided in a portfolio of DuPont Nonwoven technologies that will be offered through DuPont Separations Solutions (DSS), a new growth initiative dedicated to developing and implementing technologies for filtration.
DuPont Separations Solutions’ air filtration product portfolio will include:
BarriRFlux for the healthcare and life sciences markets.
Premium Air Filtration Products for reduced energy consumption and reliable contamination control in commercial hvac applications.
Premium Interior Air Filters for automotive applications.
Various composite structures aimed at a wide variety of applications in the transportation and industrial markets.
DuPont Separations Solutions’ liquid filtration product portfolio will include:
BarriRFlux for critically clean applications in industries such as life sciences, food and beverage, and areas where contamination prevention and process utilization are a top priority.
Traditional DuPont Nonwoven technologies, such as Xavan (spunbond polypropylene), Sontara, and Tyvek for the construction of composite structures and support media for food-grade required applications as well as large particle removal applications commonly found in many industrial applications where quality, reliability, and consistency are a given. www.dupont.com
New Coleman Line Delivers Efficiency
Johnson Controls has introduced a new, high-efficiency heating product to its Coleman® line the Echelon Series modulating gas furnace. With 95% Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE), the Coleman modulating furnace exceeds the minimum efficiency standards established by the U.S. Dept. of Energy. All models within this series also meet the 95% AFUE level required for the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT), making this unit eligible for a $150 tax credit.
In addition to being energy efficient, the Coleman modulating gas furnace maintains a constant temperature; is available with many different features and options, so consumers can customize their home’s comfort; comes with both a constant speed blower configuration and a variable speed blower configuration and is supported in all positions (upflow, downflow and horizontal); and doesn’t require complicated and expensive controls. www.Colemanupg.com.
Training Focuses On Refrigerant Changes
Icor International, producers of environment-friendly refrigerants, recently introduced a new training program entitled, Residential/Light Commercial “The Future of A/C Refrigerants.” This program is approved by NATE (North American Technician Excellence) for two credit hours, which can be applied towards continuing education programs.
“Our training program focuses on all of the practical retrofit choices that are currently available for the residential/ light commercial comfort cooling market,” said Gordon McKinney, vice president and chief operating officer.
The phase-out of R-22 in new OEM equipment, and 65% reduction cap in R-22 production/consumption, is now less than three-and-a-half years away. Industry experts predict that the cost of R-22 will continue to increase at a rapid rate as it has in the last few years. This program will help technicians get ahead of the phase-out curve and prepare them for a future without R-22. For more information on this training, contact Icor at 800-497-6805 or send an e-mail to icorinfo@icorinternational.com. You can also contact Icor’s tech-2-tech diagnostic support hotline at 866-433-tech (8324).
