A new app, released by The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA), helps contractors, engineers, architects, and designers easily and accurately estimate air duct leakage.

The free app, for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, also provides a quick way to determine the pass/fail mark for properly specified duct air leakage tests (DALT) and generates a report that can be e-mailed directly from the app.

Users can combine multiple sections of ductwork that vary by size and shape to calculate total allowable leakage. The application uses the methodology found in SMACNA’s “HVAC Air Duct Leakage Test Manual” and provides applicable leakage classes from the publication’s latest edition. The method complies with ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, IGCC Version 2, IMC, and the UMC.

Download the app from the iTunes store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dalc/id427624076?mt=8 (search on key word “SMACNA”).

Or, visit the SMACNA website: www.smacna.org/dalt

The app will soon be available for use on Blackberry and Android devices.
