Carrier Corp. recently announced several important initiatives aimed at advancing product efficiency and green awareness.

First, the company was proud to be the presenting sponsor for the International Forum at Greenbuild 2010. More than 500 building professionals from around the world gathered at the event to exchange ideas and learn about the latest green building strategies.

The Fourth Annual International Forum by the U.S. Green Building Council included a full day of breakout sessions addressing diverse topics on Eco-Districts, Global Policy, Greening in China, Climate Change Adaptation, and Active and Sustainable Design. In addition to this expanded program, the Forum opened with an interview style plenary on Sustainable Architecture in Latin America featuring architects from Mexico, Brazil, and Chile. The full day event closed with an International Developers Panel that featured developers from China, Australia and the U.S. and focused on policy and implementation developments in the U.S. and abroad. For the first time ever, International Forum sessions are eligible for Continuing Education Units (CEU) credits for the LEED Accredited Professional program.

Carrier University for Sustainability

In addition, the company announced that it has launched the Carrier University Institute for Sustainability under a collaborative initiative with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to become the first company to license USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) curriculum to train its employees and customers in sustainable building solutions.

This collaboration offered by the new Institute for Sustainability will allow Carrier to advance sustainability education worldwide. Carrier University offers comprehensive HVACR training in a wide range of areas including technical skills, sales and marketing skills, business management, customer service, controls and system design. The newly created Carrier University Institute for Sustainability will focus on professional development, technical training, and application tools.

The Carrier University Institute for Sustainability bundles the company’s body of knowledge and expertise into a single place focused on serving those seeking sustainability education.

CO2 Product Conservation Meter

To demonstrate the positive impact of choosing sustainable products, Carrier Corp. has launched its CO2NSERVATION Meter, which calculates avoided greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as a result of the installation of high efficiency Carrier air conditioning, heating and refrigeration systems by customers around the world since 2000.

Buildings in the United States alone consume approximately 40 percent of all energy, and within buildings, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems account for approximately 35 percent of energy use. The CO2NSERVATION Meter compares the projected GHG emissions from select Carrier products to emissions from comparable baseline products, with the difference representing the avoided emissions. As of Nov. 16, 2010, the Carrier CO2NSERVATION Meter showed Carrier customers have avoided 70,087,194 metric tons of GHG emissions, equivalent to the electricity use of 8.5 million U.S. homes for one year, by choosing high efficiency Carrier products since 2000.
