Nest Labs' second-generation thermostat is 20 percent slimmer and now compatible with 95 percent of low-voltage residential heating and cooling systems.
The thermostat also has a new all-stainless steel ring that mirrors wall color or patterns to create a chameleon effect and blend into any décor more effectively, the company says. It extends support to two-stage cooling, three-stage heating, and emergency heat for heat pumps, as well as whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers.
A number of new software 3.0 features are available with the new device, including an early-on feature to match desired temperature and schedule. Nest also calculates the health of the system’s air filter – based on system runtime – and offers reminders for when to change it to maintain efficiency. A Heat Pump Balance feature optimizes how often owners need to use expensive auxiliary (AUX) heat.
There also are enhanced auto-away and auto-schedule features, and broader mobile support.
Training and Certification for IAQ
As HVAC engineers and contractors become more frequently recognized as indoor environmental professionals, the need for third-party accredited IAQ certification has emerged. Consumers are better educated than ever about IAQ and understand that a truly qualified person is needed to solve complex problems.
