15-SEER Packaged Rooftop System Saves Energy in Schools
Trane’s 15 SEER Precedent packaged rooftop air conditioning system saves electrical costs while keeping students and teachers comfortable and productive. Designed to help schools achieve LEED Certification, the Precedent features a Tracker control system for system-wide control and monitoring.
Precedent is a gas/electric cooling unit. One unit serves the needs of a single classroom, and all units are controlled centrally through the Tracker controller. Humidity control options include Cool, Dry, Quiet (CDQ) or hot gas reheat for sensitive parts of the school, such as the library and computer and science labs. Trane’s CDQ is a dehumidification innovation that resulted from a two-year research and development project, partially funded by the Department of Energy.
Precedent is ideal for retrofits, new construction, additions, or replacements, particularly in districts that face growth in new school construction, increasing age of existing infrastructure, growth in student enrollment, or high energy costs.

High-Efficiency Gas Furnace & Heat Pump Achieve ‘Best Buy’ Award
Bryant Heating & Cooling Systems recently received a Consumers Digest Best Buy award for its Bryant Evolution Plus 90i Gas Furnace and its Evolution 288A Heat Pump.
Best Buys were selected on the basis of energy efficiency, noise levels, features, and the manufacturer’s reputation for reliability.
The Bryant Evolution Plus 90i has a 96.6 AFUE rating. The Bryant Evolution 288A Heat Pump has an 18 SEER rating. Both units feature Perfect Humidity technology. They are also equipped with Perfect Heat technoltechnology, a two-stage system that enables the unit to switch from high and low heating modes depending on outdoor temperatures. Another feature, the Evolution Control, enables the homeowner to regulate temperature, humidity, airflow, ventilation, indoor air quality, and zoning through a single control.

Ultra-Efficient, Fully Modulating Boiler
The CFC ClearFire Boiler is designed to achieve operating efficiencies of 99% in full-condensing mode. This modular hot water boiler is single-pass-down fired with rugged stainless steel construction, and was designed to produce noise emissions of less than 70dBA, making it ideal for schools, office buildings, hospitals, nursing homes, or anywhere noise levels are an issue. It is CSA-certified and is available in sizes ranging from 750 MBtuh to 1,800 MBtuh. Utilizing a premix burner with a metal fiber head, the CFC model provides NOx emissions of less than 10 ppm.
The ClearFire series can run on either natural gas or propane. There are no minimum flow or water temperature requirements. The boiler’s fully modulating burner assembly with variable-speed fan is hinged to the top of the boiler and can be raised to reveal the burner components, insulating material, and the pressure vessel unit in order to simplify maintenance.

Ice Storage Air Conditioner Shifts Peak Energy Use to Evening
Ice Energy, Inc.’s Ice Bear® energy-storage unit relieves stress from the power grid by shifting peak energy used by air conditioners to evening hours.
The Ice Bear module is a simple add-on to a conventional air conditioning unit and uses off-peak electricity to efficiently make and store ice at night. The energy stored as ice provides effective cooling during the hottest hours of the day, reducing peak electrical demand while promoting energy efficiency.
Ice Energy’s patented and proven technology works with conventional rooftop and split-system air conditioners found on most light-commercial and residential buildings. Approximately 95% of air conditioner peak energy use is shifted to nighttime hours when electricity is less costly and produces fewer emissions. Other benefits include savings on energy bills, more effective use of natural resources, less pollution and ozone smog, and a more reliable and secure power grid, with less need for new power plants and lines.

York® Affinity Modulating Gas Furnace Designed To Provide “Exact” Comfort
The York® Affinity modulating gas furnace is designed to maintain a constant temperature while delivering improved comfort, quieter operation, and reduced energy costs. With a 95% AFUE rating, Affinity units are available in both a constant speed blower configuration and a variable speed blower configuration and are supported in all positions (upflow, downflow, and horizontal).
The York Affinity is designed to be easy to install, operate, and maintain. It is installed like a traditional single stage furnace, with no extra steps required. The sensors and controls automatically compensate for comb air supply and exhaust variations, wind gusts, and long vent runs.
No complicated controls are required. The unit simply needs a standard one heat/one cool thermostat to function. The modulating control employs multiple feedback loops to dynamically adjust the operation of the furnace and optimize the overall temperature control.
