New Carrier Staged Air Volume System Saves Energy and Time
Carrier has introduced a staged air volume (SAV) system that
the company says will provide more energy savings than single-speed indoor fan
motor systems. The SAV system uses a variable-frequency drive (VFD) to
automatically adjust the indoor fan motor in sequence with a rooftop unit’s
heating, cooling and ventilation operation, providing increased comfort
control. In addition, the VFD ensures a slow ramp-up to help control air volume
surges and reduce noise in duct systems during fan speed changes, and it has
internal over-current protection for the fan motor and an accessory display kit
that provides detailed VFD diagnostics for making system adjustments.
The SAV system is available on all Carrier Weather Series rooftops and Gemini air handlers in the 7.5-ton size and larger and comes with electrical mechanical or RTU Open multi-protocol controls. Both sensor and conventional thermostat controls can be used to provide accurate control in any application.
