AHRI Releases August 2013 U.S. Heating and Cooling Equipment Shipment Data

Residential Storage Water Heaters
U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for August 2013 increased 22.7 percent, to 335,909 units, up from 273,759 units shipped in August 2012. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 16.6 percent in August 2013, to 326,805 units, up from 280,177 units shipped in August 2012.



For the year-to-date, U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters increased 10 percent, to 2,835,986, compared to 2,578,638 units shipped during the same period in 2012. Residential electric storage water heater shipments increased 7.3 percent year-to-date, to 2,665,728 units, compared to 2,483,428 units shipped during the same period in 2012.

Commercial Storage Water Heaters

Commercial gas storage water heater shipments increased 14.5 percent in August 2013, to 6,834 units, up from 5,968 units shipped in August 2012. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments decreased 24.3 percent in August 2013, to 6,261 units, down from 8,272 units shipped in August 2012.

Year-to-date U.S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters increased 13.7 percent, to 60,960 units, compared with 53,602 units shipped during the same period in 2012. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments decreased 1.1 percent to 45,948 units, down from 46,473 units shipped during the same period in 2012.

Warm Air Furnaces
U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for August 2013 increased 3 percent, to 215,129 units, up from 208,861 units shipped in August 2012. Oil warm air furnace shipments decreased 22.9 percent, to 2,603 units in August 2013, down from 3,375 units shipped in August 2012.

 

Year-to-date U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased 19.3 percent, to 1,583,426 units, compared with 1,327,733 units shipped during the same period in 2012. Year-to-date U.S. shipments of oil warm air furnaces decreased 9.6 percent to 15,983, compared with 17,679 units shipped during the same period in 2012.

Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps

U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 500,813 units in August 2013, down 2.9 percent from 515,530 units shipped in August 2012. U.S. shipments of air conditioners decreased 5.7 percent, to 347,718 units, down from 368,650 units shipped in August 2012. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 4.2 percent, to 153,095 units, up from 146,880 units shipped in August 2012. 



Year-to-date combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 9 percent, to 4,760,730 units, up from 4,368,522 units shipped in August 2012. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 6.1 percent, to 3,280,528 units, up from 3,092,220 units shipped during the same period in 2012. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 16 percent, to 1,480,202 units, up from 1,276,302 units shipped during the same period in 2012.
